Neil Druckmann, the creative director and main writer at Naughty Dog, says that his studio has been initially working on a new Jack & Daxter video game before it moved to the idea that would eventually emerge as The Last of Us.

Speaking at the IGDA Toronto 2013, the developer explains exactly how the decision process worked and where the team drew inspiration from.

The keynote speech is long and filled with details and it offers a fascinating insight into a process that most game fans do not have access to.

The Last of Us was one of the most successful releases of 2013, praised by critics on launch and generator of solid sales for publisher Sony.

Naughty Dog says that it plans to add more DLC for the title in the coming months.

It’s not clear whether the Jack & Daxter project will be re-visited.
