Mobile phone users in Latin America will soon have the opportunity to enjoy the first handset in the world to pack Google's Android OS and iDEN connectivity in the same design, the Motorola i1. The device is set to become available for purchase via Nextel Argentina, Nextel Brazil and Nextel Mexico, bringing along its Push-to-Talk (PTT) capabilities, along with premium phone features.

The Motorola i1 will land on the market with Wi-Fi connectivity options, enhanced Internet browsing features via a Nextel branded version of the new Opera Mini 5 browser, DirectConnect, a Facebook social network application, Swype text input technology, MP3 player and more, all packed inside a device that sports a sleek and attractive design and a 3.1-inch HVGA touchscreen display.

Nextel customers will enjoy a great experience offered by the Android operating system, as well as access to a wide range of software solutions available for download from the Android Market, not to mention the series of Google services the device supports. Motorola i1 sports entertainment capabilities too, including a 5-megapixel photo snapper with geo-tagging and panoramic capabilities, or a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space (an 8GB micro SD card is included in the package).

According to NII Holdings, Inc., “The Motorola i1 comes preloaded with unique and practical applications such as iAlarm, a service that allows you to contact previously programmed persons in an emergency situation by simply holding a button for 5 seconds, TeleNav for turn-by-turn navigation, calculator, calendar, alarm clock, gestures, weather widget and games such as Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 09, MONOPOLY HERE & NOW, Prince Of Persia and Block Breaker Deluxe 2, which uses the accelerometer on the device to make gaming a more intense experience.”

Among other features that Motorola i1 should pack when released in Latin America, we can count the Nextel Multimedia suite, a free software that enables the transfer of content between the phone and a PC, messaging capabilities, video-recording features, or the Nextel Live widget for fast access to news, sports, politics and lifestyle information. It should also be mentioned that the Motorola i1 is a rugged device, capable of withstanding harsh environmental conditions.
