When Call of Duty: Black Ops managed to sell 5 million units during its first 24 hours on sale last year a lot of people were impressed but this year no one is doubting that Modern Warfare 3, from Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games, will top that number easily.

Arvind Bhatia, who is an analyst working for Sterne Agee, has stated, “We expect MW3 to grow 10% versus last year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops, which has sold through more than 25 million units life-to date. We expect 5.5M-6.0M unit sales of MW3 on day 1 and nearly 18M units in the December quarter.”

Another analyst widely cited by the video games industry, Michael Pachter of Wedbush Morgan, also says that a 10 percent increase over the Black Ops numbers is to be expected.

The game will be available on the PC, the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 today and overall sales for the game will go over the 10 million copies mark.
