It turns out that Microsoft has almost completed development of the update

Windows 8.1 Update 1 is still a work in progress at Microsoft, but according to some new rumors, the company could sign off the new build by February 23.

Windows leaker WZor has reported via unnamed sources that Microsoft could sign off Windows 8.1 Update 1 by February 23, which means that development of the new project is almost finalized.

Surprisingly, some other reports, also citing people close to the matter, are suggesting that Windows 8.1 Update 1 is set to make its public debut in April, more than a month after the new pack of improvements gets the go-ahead from Microsoft.

Windows 8.1 Update 1 is going to be offered free of charge to Windows 8.1 users via Windows Update, with Microsoft expected to require a fully up-to-date installation before starting the deployment process.
