The Redmond-based software maker Microsoft is continuously looking into ways to open new stores across the United States, but it seems like the company is now planning to expand its retail network overseas as well.

Even though plans to open official stores in non-US locations aren’t something new, Kevin Turner, the company’s chief operating officer, confirmed at the Worldwide Partner Conference 2013 on Wednesday that Microsoft wants to have as many as 101 stores by this time next year.

At this point, the company is selling products through a total of 75 stores, but Microsoft will soon open new locations in China, as it tries to make the most of the local growing market.

Of course, the new stores would play a key role for Microsoft’s long-term strategy, as it wants to provide easier access to the new Windows 8.1 update and the second-generation Surface tablet.
