Microsoft has promised to provide Surface buyers with a wider range of accessories, but it turns out that the company has silently decided to retire one of them.

A report by ZDNet and citing a Microsoft spokesperson reveals that Microsoft decided to discontinue the Surface Wireless Keyboard Adapter which allowed users to connect the Type and Touch Covers to monitor from up to 30 feet away.

The device is no longer manufactured, the report states, but Microsoft hasn’t yet provided a reason for this, saying that “it’s only evaluating its options.” In plain English, the accessory was probably less successful than Microsoft expected, so the company had no other option than to retire it completely.

“Due to a number of factors, we are no longer manufacturing the Surface Wireless Keyboard Adapter,” a Microsoft spokesperson was quoted as saying. “We are always evaluating our options and remain committed to helping people be productive with Surface.”

The Surface Wireless Keyboard Adapter, which continues to be available on Microsoft’s online store, was sold for $59.99 (€43.5) and offered support for all Surface tablets on the market. It used Bluetooth to connect to your tablet and came with a USB cable that allowed you to recharge the device with ease.
