Computex 2013 is clearly the right moment for the key players in the hardware industry to unveil their latest products, but Microsoft has outlined a different strategy for its future projects.

Instead of releasing some of its newest devices and software solutions at Computex, Microsoft has decided to use its own events to introduce both the Windows 8.1 update and the second-generation Surface.

The BUILD developer conference, scheduled for June 26 – 28, will witness the debut of two essential products for Microsoft’s long-term strategy, both of which are expected to hit the shelves in their final form later this year.

While Windows 8.1 is going to be offered for free to all Windows 8 users, expect the second-generation Surface to come at lower prices, especially because the tech giant needs to stir up interest in its tablets.

Word is that Microsoft is planning to unveil an 8-inch Surface tablet running the new Windows 8.1 and specifically developed to compete with the likes of iPad mini.
