Microsoft may have to cope with a new ban in China after a local IT company has asked the Redmond-based technology giant to show its license for launching the Office 365 cloud service in the country.

According to a report published by The Register, Baihui Zongheng Technology, an IT service provider and a Microsoft customer, has requested the company to demonstrate that it has all the necessary papers to “operate cloud computing services in compliance with the law.”

If Microsoft doesn’t have the necessary documentation, Office 365 could be banned in China, the company warned, so plenty of local firms relying on the cloud service could be affected.

Microsoft is yet to issue an official statement on the case, but as it usually happens in China, the software giant will most likely present its documentation and comply with all requests.
