Joe Belfiore announced the update would be pushed soon

Good news for T-Mobile customers who opted for either Lumia 925 or 521, as Microsoft confirmed both smartphones will eventually receive the highly anticipated Windows Phone 8.1 update.

According to Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore, work on T-Mobile Lumia 925 update has already been completed and the Magenta carrier is expected to kick off the rollout in the next couple of days.

On the other hand, the entry-level Lumia 521 is likely to receive the update in the next several weeks. While work on Windows Phone 8.1 update for Nokia Lumia 521 hasn’t been finished yet, Belfiore estimates that it should be released “soon.”

It looks like T-Mobile customers are in luck after Joe Belfiore’s announcement, but we can’t say the same thing about Verizon’s subscribers. It appears that Microsoft and Verizon are still working on some bug fixes found in the Windows Phone 8.1 / Lumia Cyan update, which means it will take more time to release it.

Verizon's Windows Phone 8.1 update is still in the works and will be released soon

According to Belfiore, Verizon is taking the quality seriously and Microsoft is not sure how long it will take to finish the update, but the thing is both companies are working hard to deliver the Windows Phone 8.1 / Lumia Cyan update to customers as fast as possible.

Judging by Belfiore’s tweets, T-Mobile prefers to push the Windows Phone 8.1 update faster and not take it that seriously, while Verizon is determined to delay the update until every single minor bug is fixed.

Perhaps Verizon’s version of Windows Phone 8.1 is harder to tweak for Microsoft’s smartphones, hence the bugs that have been discovered during testing.

Let’s hope Verizon and Microsoft will be able to deliver the highly anticipated Windows Phone 8.1 update sooner rather than later.

Lumia Denim may arrive at T-Mobile and Verizon only next year

In the same piece of news, each time Microsoft announces a new major update for Windows Phone handsets, the Redmond-based company warns customers that the new version of the OS might be available at different times to those who own carrier-branded devices.

Unfortunately, Microsoft’s warning has proven to be accurate every time a new update was released on the market. Windows Phone 8.1 update is no exception to the rule, so depending on carrier you might receive it sooner or later.

Microsoft has already announced the new Lumia Denim update, which is supposed to be rolled out by the end of the year, but the bad news is lots of supported smartphones have yet to receive the previous Lumia Cyan update in many countries. Stay tuned for more on this one.
