The Surface RT isn’t quite the best-selling tablet out there, but Microsoft claims that everything goes according to plan in Japan.

The tech giant launched its first tablet in history in the Land of the Rising Sun in February 2013 and the device is experiencing such a terrific success that its market share has already surpassed the one reached by Apple’s own iPad.

Microsoft Taiwan General Manager Davis Tsai made the announcement a few days ago, according to Digitimes, but even though no specifics have been provided, he did reveal that the Surface RT needed only six weeks on the market to grab a bigger market share than the iPad.

Worldwide, however, the Surface RT is a bit of a problem for the Redmond-based company, as the Softies had to turn to a $900 million (€780 million) write-down to adjust global inventories for the tablet.
