Branch out and change your play style during online matches

I’m the first to admit that during my playthroughs of Mass Effect 1 and 2 I wasn’t that inspired when choosing my character class, as my own version of Commander Shepard was a pure Soldier.

Thanks to the multiplayer in Mass Effect 3, however, I’ve fallen in love with all of the other classes as each have some great powers, unique abilities and are a thrill to play with, especially when you unlock different alien races, like a Krogan Soldier, Turian Sentinel, Drell Adept or Asari Vanguard.

Besides offering a chance to play alongside your friends (or strangers) and do your own part in saving the galaxy, the online mode in Mass Effect 3 is a great way of showing players like myself the joys of different character classes.

Like most gamers, I started out with a soldier but, after seeing what other people could do with classes like Infiltrator, Engineer, or Vanguard, I quickly began branching out.

First up, I went with a human Infiltrator and I have to say that sniping is now one of my favorite hobbies in multiplayer matches. I pick out different places in each of the map, turn on my Tactical Cloak, and just pick off enemies. I’m no slouch either, as the Infiltrator proves instrumental in completing objectives or reviving enemies, thanks to the same tactical cloak.

I’ve already taken my Engineer characters to the maximum level 20, as the combination between powers like Incinerate, Overloard and the always trusty combat drone makes surviving on the Silver or Gold difficulty levels much easier.

A new favorite of mine appeared yesterday, when I decided to try out the recently unlocked Drell Adept class. While I already had a few unfortunate experiences with the Drell Vanguard, I decided to see if this new one could evoke the tough attitude of Thane Krios from the single-player campaign.

The gamble paid off in spades, as the combination of Reave, Pull, and the Cluster grenades, while wielding a capable assault rifle like the Avenger, makes killing enemies a breeze.

What are some of your favorite multiplayer character classes? Did you stick with conventional ones like Soldier or have you expanded your horizon?
