As opposed to its predecessors, Mass Effect 3 is a hilarious game

We’ve already talked about Mass Effect 3’s various aspects and gameplay features throughout this Gamer Diary series and now it’s time to take a look at one of the areas where the game has really improved as opposed to its predecessors: humor.

BioWare is famous for crafting all sorts of epic stories and delivering them through different high quality games. From the new spin on Star Wars found in Knights of the Old Republic, to the wonderful Asian-themed narrative in Jade Empire or the medieval fantasy in Dragon Age, all of them had impressive plots.

[admark=1]With Mass Effect games, however, the looming threat of the Reapers over humanity and the rest of the galaxy doesn’t leave the main characters much room to joke around.

Sure, you got to hear some clever bits of dialog in some cases but, overall, Mass Effect 1 or 2 didn’t really have a lot of moments where it made one laugh out loud.

Mass Effect 3, fortunately, achieves this quite a few times. Be careful reading on, however, as spoilers are present.

Joker and EDI, the pilot and the artificial intelligence of your ship, the Normandy, keep the same whimsical rapport found in the second game, but it increases exponentially once EDI actually gets a body.

In case you want to laugh even more, then I recommend getting the From Ashes DLC, as its protagonist, Jarvik, manages to make all sorts of clever remarks when meeting new species of aliens throughout your adventures, including a brilliant bit where he reminds Shepard that the Salarians used to eat flies when he was still alive.

Another great bit happens during the Eden Prime mission in From Ashes, where EDI manages to “mess” with Liara by asking her if she dug up dinosaur bones alongside Prothean ruins.

By far the most amusing moment happens after you manage to save the Citadel from Cerberus troops and visit Joker’s cockpit. Here, he and Garrus are swapping Turian and Human jokes that will make every Mass Effect fan laugh out loud.
