AMD may be on the verge of unleashing a veritable new beast as far as video controller go, but in the meantime, MSI decided to spend the time by showing off a new board of its own, namely an overclocked version of one of the 6000 series mainstream adapters.

End-users, especially AMD loyalists, will no doubt be aware of the fact that the Sunnyvale, California-based CPU and GPU maker will soon unleash a new beast upon the video board market.

The card in question is known as Radeon HD 6990 and will be the first 6000 series dual-GPU model, a real monster in terms of ability set to debut in march.

In fact, the official press photos have already been made public, though the clock speeds were kept under wraps.

Regardless, Micro-Star International is not wasting time either, having decided to put its Twin Frozr III cooler to good use.

MSI chose the Radeon HD 6950 as the product that will benefit from the Twin Frozr III's cooling ability, albeit it did tweak the clocks somewhat.

To be more precise, the GPU operates at 850 MHz instead of 800 MHz, while the 2 GB of GDDR5 VRAM have a clock frequency of 5,200 MHz (stock speed is 5,000 MHz).

There are 1,408 Stream processors, as well as dual-DVI, dual mini DisplayPort 1.2 outputs and an HDMI 1.4 port, with multi-monitor support, while CrossFireX allows for multi-card setups.

Other features include a 6+2 phase PWM, Military Class II components (which enhance stability and durability) and, of course, the cooler itself, with 5 heatpipes, a pair of 80mm fans (deliver 20% more airflow) and a propeller design.

The product name is MSI R6950 Twin Frozr III Power Edition and, according to a certain report, is should already be found up for pre-order at the price of 300 Euro.
