The handset might be announced within the next few weeks

AT&T launched the LG Thrill 4G back in August and the smartphone is still part of the carrier’s portfolio. However, the device might soon get replaced by a newer device, the Optimus 3D Max.

Unveiled back in February, only a few days ahead of Mobile World Congress 2012 opening, LG Optimus 3D Max has just been spotted at FCC (Federal Communications Commission) by the folks over at Pocketnow.

Unfortunately, the difference between the LG Thrill 4G and Optimus 3D Max are too small to make it worth for those who appreciated the former model.

Anyway, AT&T customers will probably be able to purchase the LG Optimus 3D Max in the following months as the smartphone has just received FCC’s approval with the carrier’s 3G radios.

The Optimus 3D Max appears at FCC as LG-P720h, but this codename has already been confirmed as being the Optimus 3D Max, so we should expect AT&T go official with the smartphone in the following weeks.

The bad news is that there’s no mention of LTE support, which is another downside of the Optimus 3D Max, though Sprint has yet to kick off its own LTE network. Another would be the fact that the smartphone is shipped with Android 2.3 Gingerbread at launch.

Even though the Optimus 3D Max has already been confirmed for an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade soon after launch, LG is not exceptionally good at delivering OS upgrades on time, so there’s no telling when it will be able to deploy it.

The main selling point of the Optimus 3D Max is the 4.3-inch 3D LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports 480 x 800 pixels resolution, and features Corning Gorilla Glass 2 coating.

On the back, the smartphone packs two 5-megapixels cameras with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording in 2D mode and HD (720p) in 3D mode.

It is also worth mentioning the phone is equipped with a dual core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz, which is complemented by a PowerVR SGX540 GPU and 1 GB of RAM.
