David Cortarello announced on April 6 that the second maintenance release of Kwort Linux 4.0, an open source distribution based on the CRUX operating system and designed to be robust, extendable, and clean, is now available for download.

According to the release notes, Kwort Linux 4.2 introduces an updated kernel, new versions of existing packages, various improvements to the graphical user interface, as well as other enhancements designed to keep the distro as clean and light as possible.

“As the title says Kwort 4.2 is out there in the wild," says David Cortarello. "This new version is fast, stable, and simple as always and a little bit smaller. Everything has been built from scratch in a clean way from a new toolchain to every Xorg package."

The distribution is now powered by Linux kernel 3.19.2

Kwort Linux 4.2 is now based on the Linux kernel 3.19.2 and uses the Chromium 41.0.2272.76 web browser by default. The look of the distribution has been changed and greatly improved in this point release as well.

Several other small improvements and patches have been implemented as well in Kwort Linux 4.2 so that users will still have one of the lightest and cleanest distributions based on CRUX.

Kwort Linux is a rolling-release distribution, which means that there's no need to download the 4.2 ISO image if you have an existing Kwort Linux 4.x installation. To keep your OS up to date at all time, simply run the update manager and make sure all the latest updates are applied.

Download Kwort Linux 4.2 right now from Softpedia. Keep in mind, though, that the Kwort Linux operating system is not distributed as a Live CD, as it can only be installed on a local disk drive. Detailed instructions on how to install Kwort Linux can be found in our in-depth review of the distribution.
