The Kobo Aura H2O reading device will be resistant against water and dust

The future of eReaders is an uncertain one. For once, these products have become niche devices that appeal mostly to avid readers. Most customers tend to lean towards getting a tablet, which can be used for reading but for other activities as well, like browsing the net, accessing the Google Play Store and such.

But some companies aren't abandoning the eBook Reader boat. One of them is Kobo which, according to the latest information brought to us by @evleaks, is gearing up to launch the new Kobo Aura H2O digital reading device.

The device will be IP67-rated, so it will be safe to use in extreme conditions, although I don’t know who would want to read in the rain or in the middle of a dust storm. The new product should make it out on the market this fall, but we’re not given any specifics about the pricing or specifications.

When it arrives on the market, the Kobo Aura H2O won’t be a unique product. Back in March, we told you the Pocketbook Aqua eReader was announced.

The device takes advantage of IP57 certification, which means it can survive being kept under water (max 1 m / 3.28 feet) for up to 30 minutes.

So, Kobo is willing to provide a competing product for the Pocketbook Aqua, but is there a market for such devices? I tend to incline towards the negative answer.
