Sony is willing to pay a lot of money on advertising

Even before Sony announced its Xperia Z4 flagship, we told you the handset might make a guest appearance in the James Bond: Spectre movie.

But according to leaked Sony emails found on Wikileaks, both Bond actor Daniel Craig and Spectre director Sam Mendes aren't really that excited about the Sony Xperia Z4. Actually, the two don’t dig it at all and might as well use a Samsung phone any day (probably referring to the Galaxy S6).

An email from the leaked batch reads the following: “Beyond the $$ factor, there is, as you may know, a creative factor whereby Sam and Daniel don’t like the Sony phone for the film (the thinking, subjectively/objectively is that James Bond only uses the ‘best,’ and in their minds, the Sony phone is not the ‘best’).”

Sony wants to put its Xperia Z4 in Spectre real bad

Another leaked piece shows that Sony has tried to bribe its way into Craig’s heart by offering a $5 / €4.61 million personal fee if he agrees to hold the Xperia Z4 in the movie.

The Xperia Z4 launched last week but it is only available in Japan. However, the company is prepping another flagship meant for global launch, probably the Sony Xperia Z3 Neo.

The Japanese company reportedly budgeted $18 / €16 million of “advertising commitment” for the next Bond film, but Samsung upped this offer by throwing a $50 / €46 million figure.

Sadly, the email exchange doesn't reveal which phone Bond decided to use in the end. Although he certainly has a little bit of history with Sony, since the Xperia T handset appeared in Skyfall.

So I guess we have to wait until November 6 when Spectre goes live in theaters to find out whether Bond ends up rocking a Samsung Galaxy S6 or a Sony Xperia Z4. Nonetheless, we know what the actor prefers.

Sony Xperia Z4 spec roundup

Sony Xperia Z4 made it into the wild not so long ago, arriving with a 5.2-inch 1080p display, a Snapdragon 810 processor under the hood plus 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD card slot to 128GB).

The smartphone is also equipped with an impressive 20.7MP camera with autofocus, LED flash and audio recording, while on the front there’s a 5.1 secondary camera for selfies.

We guess Sony’s new Xperia didn’t prove sleek enough for Bond, at least not compared to the Samsung Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge.
