It turns out that not everyone is upset about the quality of The Witcher 2 Linux version

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings was just released for Linux a few days ago, but the community is not happy about the way the port was done. On the other hand, some players have gone the other way and they are calling the Linux users ungrateful.

It's not every day that a major title like The Withcer 2 arrives on Linux and you would imagine that everyone is ecstatic about it. This is just the sort of game that is needed to push the Linux platform forward and to determine more developers to port their titles.

The problem is that the developers didn't actually make a port, they made the version for the Windows platform work on Linux, with the help of a wrapper similar to Wine. This means that even if the game works, some users will have a difficult time playing it due to various problems, but especially because of poor performance.

This is where the community has divided itself. Some say that releasing bad ports for Linux is actually damaging and that developers should take their time before releasing games in this condition.

The Linux community has a much lower tolerance for bad software, unlike the Windows users. They prefer quality and they don't like applications adopted from other platforms.

On the other hand, some of the other users have said that the Linux community is ungrateful and that they should settle with what they've been given. When The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings arrived on Linux, the devs from CD Projekt Red also discounted the game by 80%, allowing everyone to purchase it at a ridiculous price.

This alone should temper all the criticism towards The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and the studio behind it. It's unclear whether this was a temporary solution chosen by CD Projekt Red until it actually ports it or this is the best it can do under the circumstances.

The problem is that this particular title uses some very advanced technologies, not yet available on Linux, through drivers, and it's unlikely that OpenGL will be able to provide some sort of substitute any time soon, if ever.

As it stands right now, it's not enough to meet the system requirements for The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, you will need to have much better hardware than that just to get a decent experience. The Steam forums have been flooded with complaints and criticism, but we have yet to see an official response to this issue.

What do you think? Is the Linux community ungrateful or the users just have high quality standards?
