Torch Mobile has recently announced that the Iris Browser for Windows Mobile 5 and 6 can now be downloaded for free. In addition, the company also says that the WebKit-based software solution (includes the same engine as Google Chrome and Safari) comes with compatibility with a variety of Windows Mobile 5 and 6 devices, including Classic and Professional (Smartphone, PocketPC) editions.

Windows Mobile users that would like to test out the capabilities of the browser should know that the WebKit-based Iris Browser 1.1.8 for Windows Mobile comes with faster networking and loading of local files, as well as with improved graphics performance. The browser looks like a rather nice solution, and it might prove to be able to deliver a nice experience to those that will choose to use it.

What the new 1.1.8 version of the browser comes with includes: an improved graphics performance, faster networking and loading of local files, improved memory usage, improved asynchronous behavior while loading pages, support for the W3C Geolocation API, support for HTML5 SQL databases and client side storage, a series of rendering improvements, including for canvas, CSS transformations and effects, improved Thai support and right-to-left language fixes, as well as many general bug fixes.

One more thing that should be added is that the company recommends the Iris Browser to be used on devices that feature a 400MHz CPU or higher, coupled with at least 128MB of RAM. On the other hand, it seems that 200MHz processors coupled with 64MB of RAM are also able to handle the software solution.

The new Browser 1.1.8 for Windows Mobile can be downloaded for free directly from the company's site, where users will need to fill in a registration form. Those that would like to try the application will be able to download the CAB file either on a PC or directly on their mobile phone.
