You all know what people say: metalheads around the world are a little nuts. Well, I'd add most of them are a little more nuts, so to speak. Yet, it gives me a great pleasure to inform you, my non-metal friends that listening to such music and acting like a real metalhead (I mean headbanging) now gives you free energy to power up your Bluetooth headset and has its battery recharged. Plantronics, a company well-known for their innovative way to approach problems, came with a fantastic (and old) method to produce electricity: rotating a metal object in a magnetic field. Elementary school, almost, isn't it?

Well, things are simply neat: Plantronics' invention is a Bluetooth headset which needs no energy to recharge its battery, other than that produced by the small flywheel inside its already diminutive casing.

Even more, Plantronics claim that the simple movement of the head will generate enough energy to sustain the operation of the Bluetooth headset and slowly recharge its battery. In a metalhead-approach, this translates into a very simple equation: so, you're on the phone with your buddies and speak about the next gig you plan to go to and experiment a new and more fun crowdsurfing technique.

All of a sudden, your headset starts beeping to alert you about its battery's imminent demise, and what do you do? “Hey, Joey, gimme a moment to charge up my damn headset!” “Okay mate, go for it!” And then you play some evil deathmetal song written at a fast pace and start headbanging. The beeps stopped and you just know your Bluetooth device is charging; just some more growls and you're good to go. Of course people are looking at you frightened while some reach for their phones to call 911 (they thought you're epileptic). Now it's time to nod your head in a calmer manner (and thus play some Lynird Skynird); nevermind the 911, the guys' phones will soon run out of power (you can laugh in a slightly ominous gesture here).

There is no detailed word on when this patent-applied-for technology will be available; yet I strongly believe that it will not be too long until this happens. For those more interested in the patent itself, you can check this page and learn more about Plantronics metalhead and nature-friendly energy production methods.

Ah, and I thought the picture above is worth posting, because it shows how neat someone producing green energy could look.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is .
