Those who have been keeping a close eye on the news in the IT industry might have noticed that Palo Alto, California-based PC vendor HP has recently announced a number of new products designed for various market segments. The two differ in terms of the platform they are built on, with the former boasting an Intel platform, and the latter offering a choice of AMD's latest desktop processors.

HP's Compaq 6000 Pro will provide customers with a choice for various Intel Pentium, Celeron, Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Quad processors, while the Compaq 6005 Pro offers a choice for AMD's Sempron, Athlon II and dual-, triple- and quad-core Phenom II processors. Additional options include 160GB through 500GB 7,200RPM hard drives, or 80GB to 160GB, high-performance 10,000RPM drives with a 64GB Solid State Drive for increased boot times and better overall performance. The two systems can be configured with up 16GB of RAM on the four DIMM slots.

On the software side of the two configurations, HP has included a number of choices for its consumers, who can take advantage of almost all operating systems available today, ranging from Microsoft's Windows XP to Windows 7 64-bit, to Novell Suse Linux Enterprise 11 or FreeDOS. Additional features include HP's ProtectTools suite and Trusted Platform Module 1.2 security chip and optional 89% efficient power supplies.

Designed for professional and SMB users, the two systems are also featured with two independent audio streams that allow for simultaneous VoIP calls and PC speakers. Price wise, the Compaq 6000 Pro and 6005 Pro are now available for US$605 and US$563, respectively.
