The development team at ArenaNet is satisfied with how the recent Flame and Frost events for Guild Wars 2 have been received by the player community and plans to launch more Living World content for the MMO during 2013.

Leif Chapelle, one of the designers working on the game, says in a blog post that, “Flame and Frost has taken several months to develop, but it’s just one story arc within the overall plot beginning to unfold. The events of Flame and Frost will create repercussions throughout the world, bringing new tales and conflicts to light.”

Flame and Frost started with a number of low level events that gradually grew in importance and introduced more characters and ideas and the same trend will hold during the rest of 2013.

He adds, “In the coming months, you may see the Living World story play out from any number of approaches: activities, dungeons, crafting, or others.”

ArenaNet seems to be interested in increasing the complexity level of Living World events as the year progresses, making the system one of the pillars for the future of the MMO.

Guild War 2 events can be replayed when they are still in effect and players can track their performance via achievements and leaderboards.

ArenaNet has created Living World in order to make sure that dedicated players always have new content to explore and a way of changing the core elements of the MMO’s world.

Guild Wars 2 launched during summer 2012 and has performed well commercially.

The game uses a business model that relies on physical sales and microtransactions for revenue, with players who get the boxed game able to play it without paying a monthly subscription.

The Guild Wars 2 player base believes that an official announcement about an expansion will take place before the end of 2013.
