After Grid 1, Codemasters didn't hurry to make a sequel

Grid 2 developer Codemasters motivated the lengthy period between Grid 1 and its upcoming sequel by saying that it needed extra time to fine tune the core concept of the racing game before starting the actual work.

Grid 1 aka Race Driver: Grid was a huge success when it first came out in 2008, by combining realistic mechanics with adrenaline-filled events and mechanics.

Now, Codemasters is back with Grid 2, after releasing multiple installments in its classic Dirt series.

According to producer Ian Smith, who talked with GamingBolt, the lengthy delay is due to the studio's desire to allocate enough time to polish the concept.

"We’ve learned and developed a great deal since the original, so we were in a really good place once Grid was set off into full production. There is a lot of respect for the achievement that Grid was in the studio, so we knew that a sequel needed to be an even more impressive feat," he said.

Grid 2 is out at the end of May for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 platforms.
