Sony has confirmed that it's going to re-release the cult classic game Grand Theft Auto 3 on the PlayStation 3 console next week through the PlayStation Network.

GTA III delighted millions upon millions of gamers from all around the world when it first came out on the PlayStation 2 console.

Since then, it reached many other platforms and will soon appear on the PlayStation 3, as Sony has confirmed that it's going to re-launch the game for the new console, as part of its PS2 Classics initiative.

Sadly, this means that no improvements were made to the visual quality of GTA 3 and support for trophies or other such things isn't included.

Even so, fans of the classic title will be able to download it next week, on July 31, when the North American PlayStation Store gets updated. The game will cost $9.99 and has yet to be confirmed for a release on the European PS Store.

Another classic Grand Theft Auto game, GTA: Vice City, was also rumored to appear on the PS3, but no details have appeared about it.
