The Russian Calculate Linux 14.16.2 distro is now powered by Linux kernel 3.18.14 LTS, which is the most advanced long-term support branch of the Linux kernel. The new version is synchronized with the upstream Gentoo repositories as of June 5, 2015.
Calculate Linux's Plymouth boot splash manager has been finally replaced with the Splashutils tool, which appears to be more Gentoo-friendly and lightweight on system resources. Also, the distribution has switched to the OpenRC init system.
Furthermore, the classic names have returned to the network interface and the 70-persistent-net.rules file is now generated by CU templates, and some package cleanup has been done in the Desktop, Server, Media Center, and Xfce editions.
An issues with the Chromium web browser under the Calculate Linux Desktop Xfce (CLDX) edition has been addressed, and users are now allowed to open as many tabs as they want. Moreover, USB 3G and 4G modems are now correctly detected.
Calculate Linux moves to Python 3.4
Another noteworthy feature is the implementation of the Python 3.4 dynamic programming language on all of Calculate Linux's editions. The SMPlayer YouTube Browser application has been added in the KDE and Xfce flavors, and KDE Partition Manager replaces Gparted in the KDE edition.
Some bugs have been fixed as well, such as the default time interval for checking updates (now set at 24 hours), the card reader notifications, the detection of installed operating systems, as well as launching of Calculate Linux from certain USB controllers.
