Be careful with your precious consoles

We've talked quite a lot about the console war and how each of the three manufacturers, Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony, are fighting for the top spot in terms of sales, and by doing so make the products more and more attractive to the average customer, but the big sales and popularity that these devices have been experiencing have begun to attract some unwanted attention from thieves.

This has been showcased by an Australian insurance company, RACV, which has stated that the claims regarding game consoles have started to increase in the past year and, if customers aren't careful, they will continue to do so. The statement, made by RACV Insurance General Manager Susan Allen, claims that due to the popularity that consoles have begun to enjoy, and the fact that they are pretty portable and can easily be transported, they have become prime targets for thieves.

“Traditionally, thieves have focused on jewelery, including watches, rings, bracelets and earrings. However the technology boom has created a lucrative alternative because most electronic items are so popular, now highly portable and valuable. We have noticed an increase in home content claims in relation to game consoles such as PlayStation3 and Wii as these items become more popular, with adults as well as children. Many of these items are easy to pick up, and can even be put into a backpack, allowing a thief to make their getaway easily.”

This is reason for concern, as other surveys show that game consoles are becoming more and more popular, being present in a lot of homes. The insurance company advises its customers to avoid leaving the console or other valuable electronic goods in the open so that they can be spotted by burglars, and to ensure that, when on vacation, all of the high-valued goods are stored in a safe location.

Let's just hope that things will be alright for every console owner and that none of us will find our valuable products stolen from our own houses.
