Devil May Cry history repeating

It seems that Devil May Cry 4 gave birth to a trend called "mandatory install" in order to play your game on consoles - something fanboys use against each other (when "debating" the Xbox 360 vs. PS3 problem) or they just cry for being unfairly treated (those who have never played a PC game, probably). Well, it seems that everybody's favorite game, this year's most expected title and probably the winner of the Game of The Year award, Grand Theft Auto 4, has a mandatory HDD install on PlayStation 3, while Xbox 360 owners should consider themselves a bit lucky, since the install for their console is optional (probably because of the Arcade SKU).

Although not officially confirmed by Rockstar, Andrew Pfister, aka "Skip", the writer of a GTA IV preview answered a question on the Neogaf forum about potential install times, stating that there is a "~5 minute mandatory install" for the PlayStation 3 console and there's also an optional Sixasis control scheme for bike, chopper and boat (also noting that, even though it takes a little practice, the chopper is a really fun asset).

Also, the videogaming247 website has posted a news story where it claims that "reliable sources" have informed them about an optional install for the Xbox 360 as well. As we said, there is no official word from Rockstar on the matter, but I really doubt this would make a difference. The required installs, I mean. For a game like GTA IV, some extra five minutes are nothing. Of course, some people will get mad and start cursing, the Xbox 360 fanboys will say that their console rules since their install is optional and the few hardcore PC fans in the world will keep wondering why the hell people are upset if they have to actually install a game before playing it.
