The Online Heists update for Grand Theft Auto 5 is now available for download worldwide across the PS4 and Xbox One platforms, weighing in at 4.75GB on the Sony console and 4.2GB on the Microsoft device.

Grand Theft Auto 5 came out way back in 2013 for the PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms and finally launched for the PS4 and Xbox One last November. As of right now, the game still isn't released on all of its intended platforms, as the PC version is scheduled to launch in April.

However, this hasn't stopped Rockstar from finally rolling out the long-awaited online heists for the game's GTA Online multiplayer mode, which were promised ahead of its debut on PS3 and Xbox 360 two years ago.

The long-awaited update is finally live

The patch is now available for download at least on the PS4 and Xbox One platforms, as users on Reddit confirm that the update requires around 4.75GB on the PS4 and 4.2GB on the Xbox One.

The patch should be ready to transfer around the world as we speak but, if it's not yet live in your region, check back in a few hours, as the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live services might not prompt the download at the same time for every owner of Grand Theft Auto 5.

Lots of major things are included

The update brings the actual online heists, which are complex multi-stage missions that require preparation and collaboration to pull off successfully and ensure a massive payday.

You can bet that more bug fixes and improvements are also included in the patch, but until Rockstar debuts a changelog for the actual patch, it's unclear just what they might be.

For PC owners, GTA 5 is coming to their platform in April with the online heists as standard, as well as with any and all updates that might appear until then.

Update: The full changelog for GTA 5 online heists patch is now available.
