Patrick Liu, who has been the leading producer working on Battlefield 3 at Swedish studio DICE, has announced that he is leaving the company in order to join Rovio, the company that created the Angry Birds studio.

Liu served as a senior producer at DICE for more than five years and he also has experience with The Darkness and The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena at Starbreeze Studio.

Via Twitter, he stated that “looking forward to new and exciting challenges.”

Rovio has been looking forward to expand its number of successful franchises but has not released any titles that can rival the popularity of Angry Birds.

DICE is currently working on Battlefield 4, which will probably be launched on next-generation home consoles, and also has plans to offer more long-term support for the current version of the first-person shooter series.

EA says that the next hardware generation will probably arrive in one year.
