Mozilla is making new steps towards bringing its Firefox OS mobile platform to shelves, and the unveiling of developer preview handsets several hours ago is proof of that.

Built completely on web standards, the Firefox OS was meant mainly at emerging markets, but it seems that the company might launch them in more countries around the world starting with this year.

According to a recent article on CNet Japan, wireless carrier KDDI has confirmed plans to bring Firefox OS devices to the country and it might make them available for purchase later this year, but it did not offer further info on the matter.

As UnwiredView notes, these devices might come from ZTE or TLC, since they have already confirmed support for the platform, but it remains to be seen which one will bring such handsets to shelves first, and which markets will receive them.
