The official notes for the latest version of Firefox for desktop are now available. As mentioned in our blog post yesterday, the new version is 14.0.1 and it is currently available for all supported platforms (Windows, Mac and Linux).

Besides the much-touted features (HTTPS for Google searches, full-screen support for Mac OS X Lion and URL auto-complete in Awesome Bar) Firefox 14.0.1 also integrates opt-in activation for plugins; this means that plugins are no longer allowed to run without user’s interaction, which increases both security and performance of the browser.

Two new APIs are also available in this release, one for preventing the display from entering sleep mode and the other is Pointer Lock API (allow applications to better control the mouse).

Some quirks still remain, such as crashing of the browser when using a locked profile. On Windows, using System restore briefly after updating the browse may prevent future updates. However, the development team is aware of these bugs and is working to eliminate them.
