Just as promised, the official Facebook app for Windows 8 has landed in the Store the same day when Windows 8.1 is scheduled to make its public debut across the United States.

The app is now showcased in the spotlight section of the Windows 8.1 Store and can be downloaded for free for both desktop computers and Windows RT tablets, including Microsoft’s own Surface RT.

The feature lineup includes options to get notifications when friends like and comment on your photos, while also receiving updates right on your Start screen. You can easily share photos and updates, chat and initiate group conversations without even leaving the Modern UI.

Last but not least, Facebook makes it possible for users to post messages and see what their friends are doing by simply launching the app, regardless of whether they are running Windows 8 or Windows RT.

Keep in mind that Facebook is only available on Windows 8.1, so the app won’t show up for download in the Windows 8 Store.
