Ninja Theory has revealed some more details about its most recent game, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, confirming that the game was scheduled to receive quite a lot of downloadable content, including a full-on multiplayer mode centered around races on Monkey’s unique cloud.

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West was a stunning game that truly impressed us here at Softpedia, but the general public wasn’t so thrilled with the action adventure title made by UK-based studio Ninja Theory. As such, its publisher, Namco Bandai, decided to scrap any plans for a sequel.

Now that the franchise is pretty much over before it even got off the ground, Ninja Theory Creative Director Tameem Antoniades shared with Edge magazine, via CVG, some of the plans he and his team had for downloadable content.

According to the developer, there was even a full-fledged multiplayer mode in the works, which centered around races on Monkey’s special Cloud, which floated above different kinds of surfaces.

This mode, however, was scrapped due to low sales, which put a damper on the studio’s constant strive for top notch story and innovation.

“We wanted to create affecting characters that felt more like real people than cardboard cutouts,” Antoniades said about Ninja Theory’s desire with Enslaved. “If the game had been more successful, perhaps other games would follow suit and deem it a worthwhile pursuit.”

“But perhaps instead it will be held as an example of why it doesn't matter. Either way, it won't stop us from trying. I truly believe characters and story can elevate the gameplay and affect people in deep and satisfying ways."

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West did receive one bit of DLC entitled Pigsy’s Perfect 10, which followed sidekick Pigsy as he traveled through the scrap heap he called home.
