Users of Evenflow's sharing and back-up solution, Dropbox, have a new update to install. The free application (paid subscription also available) should now handle Symlinks much better on Mac OS X, while the upload status should be slightly more accurate, the team of developers says.

Dropbox, a cross-platform solution for sharing files, but also a great back-up tool, is available in two forms: a free version, offering two gigs of space to use in any way your heart desires, and a paid version ($9.99 per month, or $99 per year), for a whopping 50GB of storage.

If you have always wished you could access your files anywhere, Dropbox is just the tool for you. Admit it, you too are tired of e-mailing files to yourself or carrying around a USB flash drive. Once installed, any item you drop into your Dropbox folder will synchronize and be available on all the systems you have the utility installed on, as well as on the web interface. Any changes you make to files in your Dropbox will instantly sync to your other devices. Furthermore, you can access it even from your cell phone.

So, let's see what Evenflow has been up to lately. A list of tweaks delivered in Dropbox 0.6.430 is available below, excluding the above-mentioned improvements:

· Fixed problem where many users weren't seeing icon overlays on Mac OS X (let us know if they come back). · Errors during synchronization (permission denied, read-only filesystem) are more robustly handled. · Fixed regression on Windows that would sometimes cause syncs to fail. · Fixed bug that would cause some clients with bad folder permissions to download indefinitely. · Potential improvements to upload speed · Potential memory usage improvements · Updated icon overlays for windows

Evenflow has also improved the Dropbox website, where users can now find tips & tricks to make better use of the software, as well as a wiki for the cool sharing and backup tool available on Mac, Windows, Linux, and mobile platforms. There, the developers promise that users should expect improvements to international upload speeds, as well as timeline-based undo to be implemented pretty soon. Interstitial for public links (with file preview, etc), memory optimization, and “a couple fun surprises” are also to be had in the near future.

Beginning with January, Evenflow says new features will include “watch any folder support” (configurable per host), better shared folder controls (permissions, etc.), API, group accounts, better support for one-off file shares, file ignore list, and peer-to-peer block exchange. You may download Dropbox for Mac using the link below. Additionally, you need to run at least Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) to use the software.
