This is nothing more than a standard update to the antimalware technology of MSE

Microsoft provided a heads-up last week, informing customers of an imminent update which would be introduced to its free security solution for Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP.

As of September 21, 2011, the company has released a refresh to the AntiMalware technology powering a range of its security solutions, including Microsoft Security Essentials 2.1.

Essentially, customers running MSE 2.1 will be better protected by version 1.1.7702.0 of the solution’s antimalware engine.

Users that follow the evolution of MSE undoubtedly know that a month passed since the previous antimalware engine update was offered for Microsoft Security Essentials.

Of course, this is nothing more than the Redmond company at work, pushing its security products forward.

As I’ve already said, Microsoft Security Essentials wasn’t the only security product from the software giant to get the updated antimalware engine.

“Antimalware Engine 1.1.7702.0 is released to all Microsoft Security Essentials and Forefront Client Security, Forefront Endpoint Protection, Windows Intune Endpoint Protection customers on 21 September 2011. Signature package 1.113.7.0 is the first that contains this engine,” Microsoft revealed.

This and past antimalware engine updates for MSE are offered as part of the regular, and I’d say monthly, refresh process of Microsoft’s security products.

According to the company, the refreshes are necessary to get its security solutions to keep up the pace with the ever evolving threat landscape.

Last week Microsoft launched Windows 8 Developer Preview Build 8102 Milestone 3 (M3), the first taste of the next iteration of the Windows client.

There’s no telling at this point in time whether the software giant will tailor a new version of Microsoft Security Essentials to Windows 8 or not, but most probably, the company will continue providing MSE to those customers with genuine licenses of Windows even after Windows 7’s successor is made available.
