AMD announced last night, March 7th, the immediate availability for download of the AMD Catalyst 12.2 video driver for Linux platforms.

There's still no release notes for the new ATI video driver from AMD, but Phoronix states that it brings minor improvements, such as better support for Radeon HD 7000 series and some updated packaging scripts for various Linux distributions, as well as bug fixes.

The previous release of the AMD Catalyst driver released last month brought support for Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot).

AMD Catalyst 12.2 video driver provides production support for the following Linux-based operating systems: Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Novell SUSE Enterprise Linux, OpenSuSE Linux and Ubuntu Linux.

This ATI/AMD graphics driver is available for both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures. Download the ATI/AMD Catalyst Linux Display Drivers 12.2 right now from Softpedia.
