Diablo III has been out for almost two weeks and many players are getting to know the ins and outs of the dungeon crawling role-playing game.

While the game is much more fun and challenging when played cooperatively, you should certainly try it out alone, although you need to remember to enlist the help of a follower.

Diablo II allowed players to enroll Hirelings, while its Lord of Destruction expansion allowed you to forge a more meaningful relationship with them.

In the new game, Blizzard takes everything up a notch for the three Followers you meet throughout its story.

The first comrade you encounter is Kormac the Templar, who was captured by enemies in the beginning of the first act. He’s basically a tank character who wears lots of armor and can rush right into battle in order to absorb the hits intended for the actual player.

Needless to say, heroes who rely on ranged attacks, like the Demon Hunter, or who are more vulnerable, like the Wizard or Witch Doctor, should rely on Templar to keep enemies occupied while they cast their attacks.

The second follower you meet is Lyndon the Scoundrel, whom you also help during the first act of the game. He’s a ranged character who likes bows and crossbows and who can use abilities that slow or poison your foes.

Characters who like close attacks, like the Barbarian or the Monk, should use Lyndon in order to help them manage groups of enemies.

Last but not least, there’s Eirena the Enchantress, who you meet in the deserts of the second act. She’s basically a witch who will help the player on his journeys by offering her ranged magical attacks, as well as some close quarters combat.

She strikes a more balanced role between Kormac and Lyndon, so pretty much any player can use her in battle.

While most of your interactions with these followers will involve you equipping them with new weapons and items, you most certainly need to talk to them in order to find out their impressive backstories. What’s more, their witty dialogue makes crawling through dungeons a funnier experience, especially with Lyndon.

Who’s your favorite follower in Diablo 3?
