Dell Streak 7, one of the tablet PCs that Dell brought to the market not too long ago with the Google Android operating system on board, will soon be upgraded to the Honeycomb platform flavor, the computer maker announced.

The device is currently powered by the smartphone-oriented flavor of the Android platform, but it seems that Dell plans on bringing it in line with other similar devices on the market.

According to the guys over at thinq.co.uk, Dell has already confirmed the move at the IFA 2011 conference in Berlin.

The news comes from Erik Day, Dell's director of marketing for the EMEA small business channel, the news site notes.

Moreover, it seems that the company has already loaded the Honeycomb platform on some of its Dell Streak 7 devices, and that it brought them to the conference.

The Streak 7 tablet PC was launched as the successor of the original Streak device from Dell, which came to the market with a 5-inch screen.

Following the upgrade to the Android 3.0 Honeycomb operating system, the Streak will keep the Dell Stage user interface, it seems, which should translate into a great experience for all users.

The Streak 7 tablet should go along pretty well with the Honeycomb platform, especially since the latter was launched specifically for devices with larger screens that those present on smartphones.

The features and capabilities of Honeycomb are similar with those present on Gingerbread, but the user interface makes the platform far more usable on the screen of tablets.

For the time being, however, Dell did not offer specific info on when exactly the software update will be released for its Streak tablet PCs, though it did stress on the fact that users will be receiving the update.
