The team at developer Valve has announced that its own DOTA 2 Multiplayer Online Battle Arena title has managed to set a new record when it comes to the number of players concurrently engaged with the same game via Steam.

The company, cited by VG247, states that 329,977 players were playing DOTA 2 around the time when the qualifier for The International tournament was taking place.

The previous record, also set by DOTA 2, stood at around 297,000 gamers.

DOTA 2 is still in beta stage and those who are interested in the modern evolution of the classic concept can ask another player for an invite.

Late in the year, Valve will organize The International tournament, which currently has a prize pool of more than 2 million dollars (1.55 million Euro).

Gamers can increase the pot by buying the DOTA 2 Compendium.
