John Smedley, who is the president of Sony Online Entertainment, has announced on Twitter that the MMO DC Universe Online has received more than 120,000 new players since the title made the switch to the free-to-play business model.

The Twitter message reads: “wow. Over 120k PC registrations in 2 days for DCUO PC. 4x concurrent increase. Big TV and online campaign coming later in November.”

The executive has also said that there are more than four time the numbers of users online at the same time.

Smedley did not talk about how the number of players evolved on the PlayStation 3 home console from Sony.

Since the free-to-play move the game has had some trouble with the server structure but Sony has said that it is working to solve the issue.

DC Universe Online was seen as a possible rival for World of Warcraft on launch but the game failed to get the ever increasing subscription numbers needed and has chosen to become free in order to attract a larger player base.
