Gamers will have to deal with escalating tensions between nations

The team working on the Heart of Darkness expansion for Victoria II is offering more information on the new Crisis system, which seems a great way of spicing up the grand strategy title.

A Crisis can take place when two countries have overlapping cores or compete for the same colonial space and, as tensions grow, they will be able to call on the support of the eight Great Powers of the game world.

There will be penalties for refusing to intervene if the crisis is on the same continent, and once support is secured, the tension begins to increase.

Victoria II will basically get, via Heart of Darkness, a way of starting wars without getting any troops to the battlefield.

The leader of the Great Powers on either side will be able to propose peace and, if they get rejected enough times, a real war will break out between all those involved.

The official diary offers more information on Heart of Darkness.
