Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is free to play this weekend on the Steam digital distribution service for the PC and Mac platforms.

If you decide to buy it, you can also score a 50% discount on the multiplayer shooter.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive appeared last August and has since drawn in lots of first-person shooter fans, largely due to Valve's great support of the online game.

Now, the company has confirmed that Global Offensive can be downloaded and played for free throughout the weekend until Sunday at 1pm PST via Steam.

In case the game manages to draw your attention, the title has also received a 50% discount this weekend, which lasts until Monday, 10am PST.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has received quite a few new features in recent months, including the special Operation Payback DLC that rewards community map makers, and also supports the new Steam Trading Cards beta program.
