Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of such franchises as Zelda and Mario, believes that the Wii U has a lot of unlocked potential that will be revealed in titles coming during 2013.

The developer tells The Official Nintendo Magazine that, “We still have new things to learn about how to leverage the features and functionalities of Wii U in ways that create fun and interesting new ways to play, including new gameplay systems.”

Miyamoto says that his team is actively working to see which Wii U features it can use in the long-rumored Zelda title for the new Nintendo console and new installments in the Mario franchise.

The Wii U has sold less devices than Nintendo expected and a price cut and big new launches will be required to push up its numbers before the end of the year.
