Zach Volker, the animation lead at Infinity Ward, says that the United States as portrayed in the upcoming Call of Duty: Ghosts is very different from the incarnations that fans have experienced in previous titles in the franchise.

He tells Edge that, “Physically, it’s gone through a lot of battles, there’s been a lot of destruction and a lot of ground has been lost.”

He adds, “From an emotional standpoint, America is beaten down, its ego is hit and hurt, our back’s against the wall, and things don’t look good.”

Infinity Ward has not yet offered information about the core story that Ghosts will tell or about its characters.

The plot is being created by Stephen Gaghan, who has previously won an Oscar for his work on Traffic.

Call of Duty: Ghosts will be out on November 5.
