Tina Palacios, a community manager working at Infinity Ward, says that the use of the mask that the Ghost character wears in Modern Warfare was necessary to establish backstory for the new Call of Duty: Ghosts.

She tells The Official Xbox Magazine, “I think it would be safe for me to say that just knowing the characters from our previous games didn’t have a backstory, that’s what really pushed us forward. We thought we need to really establish that.”

When fans first saw the Ghost mask being used in the new Call of Duty, they believed that a narrative link between the two timelines existed.

Since then, Infinity Ward has explained that it wants to have a clear slate for the story of the new game.

Call of Duty: Ghosts will be launched on November 5 all over the world on the PC, the Wii U and current-gen consoles.
