The tablet was released by a Chinese OEM

It’s no mystery that Google is working on a tablet under the Project Tango umbrella, which should be capable of perceiving surroundings in 3D much like a human does.

Basically, the device will have the ability to do realistic 3D mapping and create virtual experiences as the phone’s owner moves through the environment.

Tablets with 3D displays aren't new

What about tablets with 3D displays? Back at CES 2014 in January Stream TV showed off an interesting piece of technology.

The company created a class of glass-free 3D screen that can support 4K resolution. And it also said that tablets bundling this technology would be made available at some point.

The Hammacher Schlemmer 8-inch tablet capable of displaying 3D content by delivering a slightly different set of pixels to each eye got unveiled back in 2013.

However, we’re yet to see a brand vendor launch such a tablet. While we wait for something like this to happen, it appears Chinese OEMs are already leading the game in this direction.

Meet the Galaz Noah tablet which arrives with an 8.4-inch display and takes advantage of a 3D technology that doesn’t necessitate the use of 3D glasses (as spotted at Tablet-News).

The tablet brings to the table advanced 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution laid upon a JDI panel. The 3D capabilities come about thanks to a host of 2560 semicircular prims, each one being 70 microns in diameter.

If 3D capabilities aren’t enough for you, we should note that 4K decoding is also among the specs of the device and output to a 4K display is supported via the HDMI 2.0 output.

The engine under the hood running things along is a Rockchip RK3288 quad-core A17 processor fitted with either 2GB / 4GB of RAM and 16GB or 64GB of internal storage. Other specifications include two cameras (5MP up in front and 8MP on the back).

The Noah seems to be running (nearly-stock?) Android

We’re not being told what operating system we’re going to see onboard on the 3D tablet, but judging from the images, it seems like Android is going to run things.

The tablet appears to be made of magnesium alloy, which is the same material used by Microsoft with Surface bunch of devices.

Even if the set of specifications seems to be pretty amazing on paper, the Chinese OEM will be selling the tablet with a pretty decent tag, that of $244 / €192.

For the time being, the tablet will probably go on sale in Asia, but at some point the company behind the Noah might start shipping it internationally.
