The Commander Mode that will be part of Battlefield 4 is no longer designed to be a sideshow for core gamers and will challenge those who use it with new persistent rewards and its own scoring system.

Patrick Bach, executive producer on the first person shooter series, admits that the mode as it existed in Battlefield 2 has some issues and that DICE is pretty sure it has addressed them all.

Commanders need to get intel from their squads and then directly use it to destroy enemy assets and give their own team a tactical advantage.

Bach believes the gunship power will be especially important in Battlefield 4.

He tells Eurogamer that, “When that spawns in you think, 'okay, I can't be in the open any more. I need to go under something because I'm very exposed.' Especially for snipers on the roof - they get very scared when it happens and you see the big shadow over the whole battlefield.”
