Just now, a new customized firmware has been announced by AsusWrt-Merlin, namely version 3.0.0.4.374.42.2, which can be applied on ASUS’ RT-AC56R, RT-AC56U, RT-AC68R, RT-AC68U, and RT-AC68W routers.

This custom package was developed with the primary goal of boosting the original ASUS firmware, fix bugs, and add new improvements.

When it comes to changes made from the previous version, this release only resolves some issues regarding the Time Machine support for the aforementioned devices.

As for installing this software, the installation steps are the same as for any original ASUS firmware; get and extract the downloadable archive, log into the router’s administration page and, from the firmware update section, click on the “Choose File” button.

Now, browse and select the .trx file from within the newly-created folder and wait for the update to be sent to the router. When the transfer is finished, the device will automatically initiate the upgrade process – so make sure you don’t interrupt it in any way.

When the installation is complete, it would be best to reset to factory defaults if you have upgraded from a firmware version that is more than 3 releases old, or switched from a Tomato, DD-WRT, or OpenWRT custom firmware.

That being said, download AsusWrt-Merlin Router Firmware 3.0.0.4.374.42.2 for your router model, apply the present software on the device, and stay “updated one minute ago.”
