Players need to engage in this activity in order to take control of the Caribbean

Ubisoft has implemented a special activity in Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag that revolves around conquering forts and using them when battling other ships around the Caribbean.

Previous Assassin's Creed games involved the conquest of different locations such as enemy bases or towers.

In Black Flag, players who control Edward Kenway will be able to take over forts by first destroying their long range defenses, like artillery nests, with their ship, and then going on foot through the fort to defeat the local captain.

According to a post on the UbiBlog, there will be no more "coward" captains, as players aren't forced to find and defeat them in a certain period of time before they run away, which happened in previous games and required a retry of the whole event.

Once a fort is under a player's control, he can lure tough ships in its radius and see the artillery fire concentrate on the foe, making tough naval battles much easier.
