To be read before submitting your new or updated apps for review

Apple has begun notifying developers that the software distributed through its iOS and Mac App Stores is subject to some new rules and guidelines as of September 12, 2012.

A note on the News and Announcements section for Apple Developers says, “We review all apps to ensure they are reliable, perform as expected, and are free of offensive material.”

That’s to make sure everyone knows what they’re getting themselves into before working for months on an application only to see it rejected.

“Before submitting your new or updated apps for review, check out the latest App Store Review Guidelines and Mac App Store Review Guidelines,” reads the rest of the post.

The two links take developers to Apple’s resource center for programmers where they’ll be able to review the lengthy documentation once they’ve logged in with their credentials. A simple developer account is required to access the documentation.
